Seit 1963 war der Bahnhof Puttgarden von großer Bedeutung für die Vogelfluglinie. Ein Großteil des Güter- und Personenverkehrs von und nach Skandinavien wurde in Puttgarden verschifft. 1997 nach der Inbetriebnahme der großen Belt-Querung in Dänemark wurde der Güterverkehr erst teilweise und später ganz eingestellt. Die ausgedehnten Gleisanlagen zeugen noch heute von dem Stellenwert des damaligen Knotenpunkts. Mittlerweile sind nur noch 2 der ehemals 6 Bahnsteige in Betrieb. Der Bahnhof ist heute nur noch von regionaler Bedeutung.
Bei meinem Aufenthalt auf Fehmarn beeindruckte mich schon bei der Einfahrt des Zuges die stillgelegten Gleisanlagen und vor allem die Kraft der Natur, die sich Stück für Stück alles zurückholt, wenn man Sie denn lässt.
Since 1963, Puttgarden station has been of great importance for the Vogelfluglinie. Much of the freight and passenger traffic to and from Scandinavia was shipped to Puttgarden. In 1997, after the opening of the large Belt Link in Denmark, freight traffic was only partially and later completely stopped. The extensive track systems still bear witness to the importance of the junction at that time. In the meantime, only 2 of the former 6 platforms are still in operation. The train station is now only of regional importance. When I was in Fehmarn, the train tracks that had been shut down impressed me as soon as I entered the train, and I was particularly impressed by the strength of nature, which, bit by bit, takes everything back if you let them.
